Ron Koetter, CEC, CCE, AAC
Culinary Arts
Chef Ron Koetter has been the Program Director for Culinary Arts and Pastry/Baking/Confectionary at Faulkner State since 1994. Prior to coming to Faulkner State, he had 25 years of country-club and resort industry experience. Chef Koetter is a Certified Executive Chef; Certified Culinary Educator, and one of 300 chefs internationally in the American Academy of Chefs. He started the local Gulf Coast chapter of the American Culinary Federation (ACF) for the students and local chefs in 1995. Since then he has certified over 65 cooks at different levels, not including each graduate of Faulkner State College who is an ACF member automatically and earns "Certified Culinarian" or higher.
Jim Hurtubise, CWPC
Pastry / Baking / Confectionary
Chef Jim Hurtubise graduated from Johnson and Wales University, Magna Cum Laude, with an A.S in Baking and Pastry. He began teaching for Faulkner State at The Gulf Coast Culinary Institute in the Spring of 1998. He earned his certification as Certified Working Pastry Chef from The America Culinary Federation in 1997. He has brought the Pastry/Baking/Confectionary program to one of the "Top 10" accredited programs in the United States.
Edward Bushaw, CHA, CFBE
Hotel / Restaurant Management
Mr. Bushaw holds a bachelor's degree in Business from State University of New York College at Geneseo and a Masters degree from State University of New York College at Oswego in Technical Education. Mr. Bushaw has also completed post-master studies at Syracuse University. His 20 years of experience ranges from New Acquisitions Manager for the Western New York Hotel Management Corporation, Food and Beverage Director for the Statler Buffalo, and Human Resource Manager for Waterfun Theme Park in the Thousand Islands. Prior to coming to Faulkner State in 1994, Mr. Bushaw taught at The State University of New York College at Jefferson from 1987 until 1994.

Kent Schwartz
Golf Course Management / Landscape Technology
Mr. Kent Schwartz is the Coordinator of the Gulf Coast Landscape Institute, and also the Instructor of Landscape/Horticulture and Golf Course/Turf Management at Faulkner State. He brings to the program a vast knowledge and expertise in the design, culture and management of plantings, greenbelts, and sustainability of landscapes. He received his B.S. degree and M.S. degree from Mississippi State University in 1980 and worked for the University of West Florida for 17 years before accepting the position with Faulkner State in 2002. Presently, Mr. Schwartz is responsible for many indigenous species of native plants and 125 varieties of camellias that are being grown at the Faulkner State nursery on the Gulf Shores campus.
