Introducing the I CAN Learn® Education System for Faulkner State Community College

- What is it?
- "I CAN Learn®" is an acronym, which stands for "Interactive Computer Aided Natural Learning." The system is a complete software and hardware computer package for delivering standards based Algebra and Pre-Algebra courses to the College and Adult Education markets. This education system captures the best instructional pedagogy and delivers this instruction through technology on a one-on-one basis to every student. In addition to providing students with a complete learning environment, the software also provides a complete classroom management tool that assists educators by providing all the feedback needed to ensure every student's success.
- Where will it be offered?
- Currently the I CAN Learn® Education System will only be offered on Faulkner State’s Bay Minette Campus.
- When will it begin?
- The first course offering will begin in the fall of 2007.
- Who is it for?
- All students needing to complete either MTH098, MTH100 or both, on the Bay Minette campus, will utilize the I CAN Learn® Education System. Students taking the same courses on either the Fairhope or Gulf Shores Campus will do so in a traditional classroom setting.
- Why me?
- The I CAN Learn® education system has achieved unprecedented success in schools across the country. Studies in California, Texas, Alabama, Florida and Louisiana show that I CAN Learn® students consistently out-perform their peers traditionally taught. In addition, the system helps to eliminate "fear of failure" in students. It helps students with low math aptitude to learn more rapidly than they could in traditional learning environments. I CAN Learn® system fosters peer mentoring, tutoring, and self-directed learning. Each student can move at his or her own pace; thus, faster learners are not slowed down, and slower learners are not left behind.
- Can I get a deal from another student on used books and a used access card?

Success in Birmingham
Results on the SAT-9 Math Total Battery for 2,041 traditionally-taught students and 473 I CAN Learn® Students in Birmingham revealed a significant advantage [t = 7.2, p<.0001] for I CAN Learn® Students.
School-by-school analyses revealed that students in I CAN Learn® Classes in all five schools using the I CAN Learn® system outperformed their peers in the same schools not using the I CAN Learn® Education System.
Both male and female students in the I CAN Learn® Classes outperformed traditional students.
