Faulkner State Community College’s Hospitality Division made quite the showing at the American Culinary Federation’s sanctioned competition held at the Wind Creek Resort on April 22. Pastry student Chynna Runderson won a gold medal and Best-in-Show for her display seen below.
Under the direction of Chef Will Hughes, Faulkner State students won a silver medal and seven bronze medals throughout the competition. Students competed alongside art institute students from Tampa, Atlanta, and Jacksonville.
“Medals are awarded based on a point system established by the ACF,” Ed Bushaw, Hospitality Division Chair said. ”The lead judge commented how impressed he was with our students. He went on to tell the students that he didn’t receive a medal until his seventh competition [this being the students' first time entering a nationally sanctioned competition].”
