Career Options
From designer jeans to sports cars, we live in a design conscious world. Graphic design specialists blend traditional art skills with computer technology for commercial applications. Many organizations depend on commercial artists to design books, magazines, newspapers, catalogs, websites, packaging, trademarks, etc.
Academics
Program flexibility gives art students a choice. The following terms are based on five classes per semester:
- Commercial Art Degree – Two years / four semesters*
- Commercial Art Certificate – One year / two semesters
- Commercial Art Training Certificate
- Fine Art Degree - Two years / four semesters
- Fine Art Training Certificate
*Suggested Fall class schedule: Electronic Pre-press, Drawing, and Electronic Publishing I
You’ll study computer graphics, electronic publishing, design, drawing, printing, illustration, offset printing, photography, and your choice of art electives. The Commercial Art Certificate can be applied toward the Commercial Art Degree if you decide to upgrade your skills later. The Fine Art Degree is completely transferable and requires considerably more general education courses and fewer art courses.
