Miss Faulkner State 2011
April 11, 2011
Faulkner State Community College has crowned the 2011 Miss Faulkner State: Jasmine Wells of Millry, Ala.
Wells, daughter of Billy and Jacquelyn Wells, is currently majoring in Biological Science. After completing her sophomore year, she plans to transfer to a university where she will major in Physical Therapy.
Wells has already made a distinct impression during her first year at Faulkner State playing softball for the Lady Sun Chiefs while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
Celeste Robertson, the Pageant Director, said Wells will serve her sophomore year as Miss Faulkner State.
“Jasmine will serve as a college ambassador,” Robertson said. “She will make appearances at college and community functions as needed. She will also participate in services projects and will intern in the Admissions Office at Faulkner State.”
Thirteen contestants participated in this year’s pageant in the L. D. Owen Performing Arts Center on the Bay Minette Campus. Featured in the 2011 Miss Faulkner State Pageant were: Jasmine Wells (Miss Faulkner State 2011), Holly Dunnam (First Runner-up), Katie Smith (Second Runner-up), Tanisha Pendleton (Third Runner-up), Samantha Hollenkamp (Forth Runner-up), Morrisa Pottinger (Miss Congeniality), Lauren Cunningham (Miss Photogenic), Heather Foster, Princess Winston, Savannah Yocum, Meredith Thorton, Brandi Stewart and Jasmine Bracy.
“The contestants are judged on involvement in activities, scholastic standing, interview presence, poise and an on-stage question by non-affliated judges with documented experience in pageants, education, professional interviewing and other related areas,” Robertson said.
Contestants must attend dress rehearsals, interviews and four weeks of practice. Applications for the pageant are accepted each spring. Students participating in the pageant must meet the following criteria: have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, be a full-time freshman who has completed one semester at Faulkner State prior to the pageant, and they must meet any additional criteria listed on the Miss Faulkner State application.
